At the time I was given this theme I was working on drawings gathered from my local area. During walks and my regular run I became interested in the details in the environment around me. I was fascinated by the effects of the sometimes hostile weather conditions on the natural environment and also how nature would adapt and overcome man made intrusions.
Other than the natural beauty of the Ivy, its ability to transform itself into the tree to which it aspired, intrigue me. Given a support as in the fence posts along the winding lanes of Snowdonia the ivy becomes an avenue of twisted trees. The wooden fence post sometimes rotted away and the ivy was left to take its place. This transition and adaptation echoes for me life’s trials and tribulations and the struggle for survival all living things go through ourselves included, we are constantly reacting, developing and adapting ourselves to our given environments and life situations.
